Mrs. Zacek welcomes you.

Students, parents, and fellow teachers can use this site to keep up to date with what is going on in my classroom this year. We are busy at work in my classroom and I will share our progress on projects and give you an idea of what is to come. I will also keep you up to date with the local art and educational events that you or your family might like to attend. Check back with me here when you can for important art class information.

Introduction to my classroom

I am currently teaching art at Delta High School in Muncie, Indiana.  We work with graphite, paint, oil pastels, charcoal, mixed media materials, wire, clay, plaster, paper pulp, wood, metals, and cardboard. We are a studio class and we are always working on our projects in class. I know that every student has an artistic and creative side and we work hard to let them show it! As long as you are willing to put forth the effort needed for success, I will match your effort and help you in any way I can.
My hope is that what you learn in my class will not just be about the art you create but also about the person you can become. Feel free to look through the portfolio of art below and in the headings of samples of work completed by my students. If you have any questions, please contact me.

A Little About me

I have been teaching since 2006 and continue to learn more each year about me as a teacher and more about today's student and how they learn- And I have been able to enjoy myself in doing so! Life is stressful but keeping all things in perspective has helped me stay centered. That and getting up to run it all off in the morning! I also love to have fun in whatever I am doing. I love to laugh. Find what works for you in your lifeto help De-Stress.
I am a mom of five boys...gulp. It can be challenging but I have an amazing husband that works with me through it all. We live in the moment and cherish all the little joys that each day can bring.

Here is a look back at the Muncie Central Art Club from 2013 .

I worked for the Muncie Community Schools for 10 years and loved working with my colleagues and the students!

Student Artwork

Inspiration for Students!

Check out this quick video about how to use foil over objects to create a surface with multiple dimensions. This is a great way to add visual interest to your mixed media projects or to your Visual journals.

Importance of the Arts in Education

"The arts, perhaps more than any other subject, prepare young people with creativity and innovative thinking," states the U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Duncan goes on to say, "The arts are a core academic subject and part of a complete education for all students and is essential to stimulating the creativity and innovation that will prove critical to young Americans competing in a global economy." These statements from Duncan can be found at http://www.ed.gov/news/media-advisories/us-department-education-open-exhibit-art-works-dc-public-schools-students

I personally agree with these statements and I can't stress enough about the importance of the arts in our educational system. Support your local arts programs and encourage your students to stay in the arts!
